Dear Parents,

Our Year 3s have been away on camp for the last two days and were fortunate to have good weather. I spent the day with them today and they have had a wonderful time. Thanks as always to all the staff who give up their time away from their own families to ensure our students have a great experience.

All camp photos can be found HERE.

Today we had a return visit by an ex-BHS student who is now a successful musician and speaker – Scott Darlow. He performed for all the students and also incorporated stories about Australian culture. He will visit the school again next Thursday with copies of his latest CD which can be bought for $100. It was a great opportunity to listen to him especially in BHS’s 50th Anniversary.

IMPORTANT DATES

Parent Information Evenings Offered This Term

As you may be aware, ESF will be holding a 50th Anniversary Gala Dinner on Wednesday 6th December at HKCEC. The event is open invite to all ESF’s past and present staff members, all ESF School Alumni, Family and Friends. This is a great opportunity to socialise with old friends, make new ones and improve the breadth of your network while having fun.

Currently we have a promotion code “ESF50” that may be used at registration; this is a special $988 offer on the ticketing website, www.esf.edu.hk/gala.

We are participating in many sports tournaments over the coming weeks. Mr Teahan will report on them in the Newsletter. Good luck to all our teams. Our Chamber Choir has been rehearsing hard for many performances in several Hong Kong shopping malls in the next 4 weeks. I hope you get time to watch and support them. The dates and venues are listed here:

Thank you for supporting the annual ‘Box of Hope’. A total of 305 boxes were collected on Tuesday. It is lovely to think that we are going to bring a smile to so many children who have never received a gift before.

A reminder of our upcoming events to mark the BHS 50th Anniversary:

All of the cakes will then be on display and available for sale that evening at the Christmas Concert and the winner will be announced. Please make sure your entry is clearly labelled and any containers you send your cakes in have your child’s name and class marked on them so we can return them to you.

Discovery College Girls Football

Yesterday the Girl’s football team participated in the annual Discovery College girls football tournament. They performed very well in finishing 5th out of 12 teams. We were drawn in a tough group where we managed to finish 3rd after winning two, drawing one and losing two games. In the fifth/sixth playoff we defeated DBIS 2-0. Well done to all the players with special mentions to Katie and Tian Wen who were making their A team debuts. Thanks to the parents who attended as well.

HEALTH

Communicable Diseases

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health remind us ALL to remain vigilant against Scarlet Fever (SF), Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE) and Hand, Food and Mouth Disease (HFMD).

  • At present, we have not received any suspected or confirmed cases.

SF is a bacterial infection which mostly affects children and the mode of transmission is via respiratory droplets or direct contact with infected respiratory secretions.  The child may experience fever or sore throat or headache or vomiting or abdominal discomfort / pain; body rash and / or the tongue with the “strawberry-like” appearance.

AGE is highly infectious, commonly caused by norovirus and rotavirus.  The child may complain of nausea or abdominal discomfort / pain or malaise or experience vomiting or diarrhoea or fever.

HFMD is a viral infection.  You will notice skin rash over hands and feet (with vesicles), the child feels unwell with fever and sore throat (may have painful mouth ulcers).

If, you suspect that the child has any of the above named communicable diseases, please consult the doctor for confirmation of diagnosis, rest at home until s / he fully recovers.

Please monitor other children in the family.

Always Keep Hands Clean.

Thank you.
