Dear Parents, Family and Friends,
Today our Year 2 children shared their learning from their latest Unit of Inquiry – ‘Celebrations and traditions can be expressions of shared beliefs and values’. I hope you were able to share the children’s enthusiasm as they shared their work through music, clay, drama, dance, stop-motions, poetry and artwork. The CEO of ESF, Belinda Greer paid BHS a visit this morning and was very impressed by the standard of work and the way the children were able to talk about their learning. Well done to all of Year 2, including all of the teachers and Educational Assistants who helped. Photos from today can be found HERE.
Chinese New Year is almost upon us and we are making final preparations to celebrate this important time of year for many. Apart from our annual ‘show’ and China Day activities, we will have our Chamber and Community Choirs performing in the ESF 50th Anniversary Chinese New Year Performance at Renaissance College next Wednesday.
Here’s what’s coming up…
IMPORTANT DATES
UNIFORM
I would like to remind parents to ensure that the children come to school in the proper school uniform. This means no long sleeved tops underneath PE tops and no leggings underneath PE shorts. I appreciate from my frequent visits to the gym(!) that wearing black leggings underneath shorts seems to be the current trend but this is not necessary at school. We will be monitoring closely over the coming weeks to make sure that the uniform requirements are being adhered to. I appreciate your understanding and support with this.
Have a lovely weekend.

Green Team
Thank you very much to Jake Wong, 1F who emailed me a picture of his Mexican Petunia which has started to flower. If you would also like to send me a photo of you doing something green, maybe getting out into nature, looking after a plant or doing some recycling at home I would love to see it. Please send your photos to jane.farago@bhs.edu.hk. If you fancy helping with green initiatives at school at the moment the Green Team are starting this year’s organic compost, thinking of ways to help the school save paper and encouraging classrooms to use our energy efficiently. Students in Years 4, 5 and 6 are welcome to join us on Wednesdays after school or any lunchtimes. I look forward to seeing you!
Again, well done to Jake!

BHS Dance Off 2017
Two weeks ago in our assembly the Student Council launched the first ever dance competition at BHS. Your child may choose to enter. If they are interested here is the important information:
- have fun
- you can perform in groups or solo
- the dance should be around 1 minute
- heats for the competition will take place at lunchtime after CNY
- sign up sheets are in every classroom
- there will be a lower school and upper competition
You can support your child by helping them create and rehearse their dance.

Dear Parents,
The Zubin Foundation have requested our help in a study to better understand the needs of schools to improve support for non-Chinese speaking children who may have learning difficulties.
The Zubin Foundation is a registered charity in Hong Kong and the ESF is acting as an adviser to their research project.
We would kindly ask that you take the time to read the further information and fill out their survey by clicking on the link below.

Road Race
It’s been a busy 10 days for our runners. On Saturday 14th January we had over 80 runners participate in the ESF Cross Country Challenge. It was a great turn out and those that ran did their very best and now have experience of running against other students.
On Wednesday 18th it was the Beacon Hill School annual road race trial. Just over 90 students ran around Ede Road and once again they should be proud of their effort. Results are below of the top five in each age group:
