Staffing Changes

I would like to update you on some staffing changes at Beacon Hill School. Mrs. Belinda McLaughlin, our Head of Special Educational Needs has been appointed as the ESF SEN Adviser for all ESF Primary Schools and ESF Kindergartens, with the position commencing from January 2017. This is a wonderful opportunity for Belinda and I would like to thank her for ensuring that BHS leads the way with inclusive education. We will continue to have her support at BHS in her new role.

For the rest of the academic year, Ms Colette Davis will take over the Head of SEN position. We will be interviewing candidates next week to make sure we have a highly suitable teacher to take over Ms Davis’ role as Learning Support Teacher in Years 5 and 6.

Those of you who have children in Mrs. McKinnon’s class already know that she is returning to Australia at the end of this term. I would like to thank Gabbe for her hard work and commitment to the students during the time that she has been as Beacon Hill. I wish her and her family all the very best for their exciting future.

I have appointed Mrs Lynn Craig to take over the class for the remainder of the school year. Lynn is currently working at Clearwater Bay School and we look forward to welcoming her to the BHS community.

Finally, congratulations to Ms Chloe Ma, our Year 4 Educational Assistant who was married this week. We wish her and her new husband all the very best for their future together.

3M’s Assembly

This morning we were treated to a lovely assembly by 3M. It was highly entertaining watching our talented students perform their assembly. 3M shared their experiences of the Year 3 camp, from rock climbing to Karaoke, and how they over game a whole range of challenges. Through wonderful singing, dancing, clear speech and stop motion animations we realised how resourceful, confident and independent our students are. I would to thank 3M for sharing such a positive message and inspiring all of us to think positively about the challenges we face.

Sports

Our sporting success has continued with our netballers and boys footballers becoming the Plate Champions in their respective tournaments. You can read more about these events later in the newsletter.

Choir Christmas Performances

Our Chamber Choir has already performed in Star Street, Wan Chai, Elements and Pacific Place. There other performances are listed in the ‘Important Dates’ section above. Photos from performances can be found HERE.

20161117_161717

On Thursday 17th November BHS went to compete with some of the Kowloon schools. First the team had some matches to determine what they were competing for. After a few rounds of games against Harrow, AIS and RCHK BHS went through to compete for the shield. At the end BHS placed second for the shield . The girls all showed great sportsmanship and team effort.

On Wednesday 23rd November BHS was invited to play in the Kellett Mixed Netball tournament. The team had to face 4 very tough and well trained opponents. Unfortunately, all of our first three matches were an unfortunate loss although we tried our best. On our last match, we played hard and worked as a team and successfully won our first and last match. Throughout the tournament, the team all showed great teamwork and sportsmanship. Although we didn’t make it into the finals, it was a great experience for all of us. We thank Miss Andrews and Miss Younie for coaching us and all the parents who eagerly came to support us.

On Monday 28th November, nine girls from our netball team took part in ICHK HLY Girls Netball Tournament against a variety of A and B teams from different schools. We played three matches in the first round and even though we only won one of them, our goal scoring was good enough to put us into the bowl semi final against RCHK. The girls played so well and really worked smoothly and effectively as a team and won the semi final to compete in the final for the bowl against DBIS. They played even better than they had been before and won the match 3-1. An excellent effort from all girls, a well deserved bowl win for you! Thank you very much to parents for your continued support and another big well done to the girls 🙂

Teachers vs Students

Thursday was the end of the season for Netball club and the annual BHS students vs staff game. The children and teachers had a lot of fun playing against each other. The games were close and the children played very well. We would like to say thank you to the teachers who came to play and support the games. We are already looking forwards to next years game! Well done to the boys team who won the plate trophy at the ESF tournament. The team played incredibly well winning six of their games and only losing to the eventual champions in the group stage. The highlights were their team work and hard work when defending, Jotaro scoring straight from a corner and also with a header and Darryl’s fingertip save in the quarters. Thanks to all supporters who came to cheer us on. Thanks to Ronny’s dad here are some photos from the tournament. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0BywPO2zR3i_WZGxKWFVnRmxtQ2c?usp=sharing

Tuesday 29th November

DBIS hosted the next tournament and for this tournament we entered two teams. Both the A and B teams were handed tough groups. The A team fought hard and finished third in a very tough group. The highlight was Sho’s 30 metre screamer! For the ‘B’ the main objective was to develop a team for next year. They played some good football and hopefully gained a lot from participating in the tournament. Here are some photos of the ‘b’ team (thanks to Justin’s mum) https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B1U0KLxplGOWN2p4VHFDY3g2RFE?usp=sharing
