Dear Parents,
Thank you for supporting our fundraising efforts today on our International Day. By 3pm today we had collected a total of $30,385.3 which we have sent to UNICEF. This contribution will provide help for those affected in Nepal. Our thoughts are with those affected families and indeed with members of the BHS community who have family links with Nepal.
Our International Day today was very exciting and it was fabulous to see everyone dressed up. I hope the children enjoyed the various art activities they tried out and have learnt something new about a different country, continent or culture! Thank you to the parents who volunteered to come in today and offer extra activities for the children.
Last week we had a great Sports Day. The weather was perfect and the children had a good time enjoying the activities and sprints. Well done to all of the children who showed excellent sportsmanship and a competitive spirit during the races. Thanks to parents for supporting the event and to the staff, especially Mr Teahan, for such a well-organised event. Photos from the day are available on our school website.
Last Saturday was the Tournament of Mind Competition hosted by Kowloon Junior School. Our team performed very well in the event. The team members were Venisha Goyani, Serena Yoon, Duncan Wong, Chris McCoy, Ayahiko Usui, Anakin Teahan and Nicole Yuen. Although they did not win, I was very impressed with their performance and the way they represented BHS. Well done to them and thanks to Ms Heywood and Ms Trotter who coached the team. Thanks also to Mr Greene, Mr Pheasant, Mrs Judge and Mr Teahan who volunteered to be judges on the day. A very special thank you to Ms Chung who coordinated the whole event on behalf of the ESF.
Last Friday 4W shared their class assembly with the school and parents. It was all about how digital media has changed the world of work and leisure. They shared many examples and it certainly made me reflect on how different the world is now because of the technology compared to when I was at school! Well done to 4W who came up with all the ideas for their assembly. Thanks to Mrs Wu, Mr Lee and Miss Kannis who assisted the children and of course, thank you to the parents who were able to attend.
Our Year 6 children and teachers are working incredibly hard right now on their ‘Exhibition’. Next week is their ‘Action Week’ so they will be doing all kinds of events in school for other children and staff members in order to help ‘make a difference’.

A reminder for any families who have still to return unsold raffle tickets from the International Food Fair. Please send them back to the PTA Office immediately as all tickets need to be accounted for.
BHS Student Achievements
It is always lovely to hear about the successes of our BHS students outside school. Kalman Yang in 4C went to Macau for the Hong Kong, Macau and Shenzhen ice hockey under 10s competition in April. Kalman played for the Hong Kong Kung Pow Kings team who won the championship. Kalman was also awarded player of the game during the second game against Shenzhen B team. Congratulations to Kalman!
Hayley Chan in 3K has been shortlisted for the Hong Kong Young Writers Award this year which means her poem will be included in the HKYWA anthology. Well done Hayley.
Connor Yip (3K), Chantal Chan (4W) , Poppy Wong (3D), Yoanna Cheung (5A) and Delna Khan (5D) have all participated in a gymnastics competition in the Novice category. Connor reached the finals for the floor exercise and came a very respectable 7th whilst Delna reached the finals for vault and managed to claim 3rd place. Well done to all of them for performing so well under pressure.
School Closures

Environment
The Green Team are asking for your help. We will be going to the ESF Environment conference in June and have been asked to make some fashion from trash – trashion! Each school has been asked to use a type of trash and we have been selected to use chopsticks. Please can you help us by bringing in any new disposable chopsticks (in their paper or plastic covers if possible) or any washed disposable chopsticks that have been used.
The idea of the trashion show is to raise awareness of unnecessary waste that we generate. Approximately 40 billion pairs of disposable chopsticks from China (and HK) get thrown away into our landfills every year. What a waste.
There is a box in the foyer for your chopstick donations. Thank you for your help.

Kowloon Learning Campus (“KLC”)
BHS Parent view summary was submitted to ESF via klc@esfcentre.edu.hk and Mrs.Hellen, BHS Parent Representative and I, as PTA Chair and Parent Representative, had attended most KLC consultation meetings and the last ESF Committee of Parents meeting to also convey BHS Parent views and other ESF wide concerns.
In general, BHS Parents do not support the Feb2015 KLC proposal because of Admissions impact for students within the current KGV catchment, more emphasis on KJS students for middle school transition than other KGV feeder schools, Clearwater Bay & BHS, and many other concerns also raised during other consultation meetings.
Per ESF letter dated 23March2015 from Belinda Greer, CEO, they will revise the KLC proposal to address Four main areas of Concern (as outlined in letter) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and again present to the Board of Governors for decision on May 20, 2015.
We have no further information or what the revised KLC proposal will be.
