Dear Parents,
I hope you all enjoyed the mid-term break and could spend some time with your families. We are all recharged and back at school full of energy for the seven remaining weeks of this term!
I would like to draw your attention to an exciting Parent Information Evening coming up on Tuesday 17th November at 6.30pm. This will be led by Marie Marchand, who gave a presentation last year also. The theme of this presentation is ‘Bringing a family routine that works to your home’. She will talk about developing routines in the morning, at meal times, for household chores, for homework and for bedtime that work for the whole family. We know that many families encounter difficulties in at least some of these areas at times and hope that this will be a very useful session. If you would like to attend please click on the link and register.
Please register your attendance via this link: http://goo.gl/forms/2VqT4UB1jb
We also have a Parent Information Evening focusing on Mathematics for Years 1, 3 and 5 next Tuesday evening. Letters have been sent home about this. I look forward to seeing many of you there.

Sports
Our involvement in sports events continues. On Wednesday our girls football team took part in a tournament at ICHK Hong Lok Yuen. They played very effectively as a team and I am pleased to say they won the bowl.
Today our boys football team participated in the DBIS tournament. We will let you know how they got on.
Tomorrow the girls are in action again at a tournament at Peak School. Good luck to them.
2A Class Assembly
This morning 2A shared their learning from their second Unit of Inquiry, with a focus on ‘how our personal choices can impact the environment’. I was at KGV today so wasn’t able to see their assembly, however I did get a sneak preview earlier in the week during a rehearsal. We learned from them how important it is for us all to think about our actions and how we need to conserve our precious resources. I hope we can all make a positive change as a result. Thank you to all the teachers and adults who guided the students and thanks also to the parents for coming to watch – as always, your children love to see you in school!
Class Assembly Date Changes
6H Class assembly will now be on February 26th and 5Y Class Assembly will be on April 29th.
Staffing
I would like to welcome Ms Donna Fuchsluger to our team. She began on Monday and is working in Year 1 as an Educational Assistant.
HK Government Survey
Parents of children in 2F and 6L would have received a survey a few weeks ago via your child, from the Hong Kong Government, who are collecting information about international school places. If you have not returned the survey to school yet, please do so on Monday, as they are being collected on that day. Thank you for taking the time to complete this important survey.
Community Choir
Thank you to those who have already signed up! Some of you may have seen the British TV programmes based around the formation of choirs, such as ‘Military Wives’ and this has inspired Mr Gibson and myself to set up a BHS Community Choir. This would be open to all parents of BHS students and to BHS Staff. The choir will begin in January, rehearsing on Thursday evenings from 7pm. We would hope to perform at school around Easter. There won’t be auditions – just enthusiasm is required! If you are interested, please sign up at the following: http://goo.gl/forms/fHNKBF35kU
Go on – don’t be shy!
Car Parking and After School Clubs
As you will know the car park is for staff only. If you are collecting your child from an after-school club, please ensure you and the children walk carefully through the car park when leaving as often there are cars leaving at the same time. Please do not park close to the car park entrance or turn around in the entrance as this has the potential to cause obstructions and visibility issues. Safety is our paramount concern. We appreciate your cooperation with this.
LEAP Request for Actors
The LEAP Organisation, who our children visit is looking for boys and girls from the ages of 8-14 with a good command of the English language to take part in a series of educational videos for LEAP. They produce educational videos on topics ranging from biology, natural science and moral education. If you are interested in your child being considered for this please refer to the details below. please note this is not organised in connection with Beacon Hill School.

Netball
On Tuesday the 27th of October the BHS girls had a netball tournament in KJS. We played our first game against Kenet School. We all played really well and worked together as a team but we unfortunate lost 4-1.Our next game was against Kowloon Junior School. We all played amazing which brought us to victory. We would like to thank Ms Andrews, Ms Younie and all the parents for supporting us.
Football
On Wednesday 28th October the girl’s football team participated in ICHK Hong Lok Yuen football tournament and once again the team had great success in winning the bowl competition and claiming their second silverware of the season.
Our first game was against Sha Tin and we won 2 nil with goals coming from Aayesha and Natalee. Our next game was against Kellett Kowloon Bay and in a tough game we fought hard to win 2 nil with Aayesha scoring two fabulous goals. Our third game was against the hosts and they were a very strong team and we held them to a nil all draw. This meant that if we drew or won our last game we would be in the cup. We had to play another strong team, GSIS, and they scored a wonder goal and we weren’t able to score against them. That was our first loss this season. This meant we had to play in the bowl final.
In the bowl final we dominated the whole match and won 2 nil against Kellett PFL with goals coming from Aayesha and Alyssa. A fantastic performance from the whole team. Thanks to the parents and staff who came to support. A big thank you to Miss Cheung for her wonderful coaching.
