Dear Parents,

Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful break and that you were able to spend some time with family and friends. The children are all refreshed and back working hard at school. The children in Years 3, 4 and 6 had a very exciting event on Wednesday when the founder and leader of ‘Jump Jam’ paid a flying visit to BHS – literally stopping off on his way back from India to New Zealand. He led a live aerobics session in the hall for 270 students – plus a few adults joined in too! We currently offer Jump Jam at lunchtimes as an alternative to being on the playground and we are exploring ways of including more of the Jump Jam programme within our activities in school. For photos, please click HERE.

Mid-Term Reports

This year, for the first time, we have introduced mid-year reports for English and Mathematics. These give a summary overview of the progress made to date by your child in the learning outcomes covered in Term 1. We have noted that only a small number of parents have accessed the reports (via The Gateway). If you have not yet looked, then I encourage you to do so. Ms Chung has details further on in this Newsletter.

Class Assembly

Thank you to 5A who shared their class assembly with their parents and the school this morning. I was busy meeting Year 1 Admission parents so was not able to watch – I will wait for the video. All reports are that it was a fantastic assembly, full of information and humour! Thanks especially to Mrs Angell, Ms Kannis and Mrs Lussier who supported the children and thanks also to Ms Davis who reorganised her timetable to provide support in the last three days.

Remaining Vigilant Against Communicable Diseases In School

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) remind us all (again) to remain vigilant against communicable diseases in school (such as, hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD), chickenpox, influenza, dengue fever, etc.).

To prevent outbreaks of communicable diseases, students who experience skin rash, fever, acute respiratory symptoms, diarrhoea or vomiting are strongly advised not to attend school and should seek prompt medical advice.

*Also, children who have fever and respiratory symptoms are strongly advised not to attend school until 48 hours after the fever has subsided.*

Always Keep Hands Clean.

Thank you.
