May 12 – Yr3 to Mei Ho House
“Homes have been influenced by a variety of factors over time.”
As part of the Year 3 UOI, they have been looking at how and why homes have changed over time in Hong Kong. On the 25th of December 1953, a disastrous fire burnt down the shelter of Shek Kip Mei leaving around 58,000 people homeless. In 1954, the Hong Kong Government started an emergency programme to build basic resettlement blocks to house the fire victims. The year 3 students were able to find out what difficulties many families had faced.
