Mandarin Monthly Update #7

1H – We have made a link to the UOI “Sharing the Planet” by talking about the needs of plants and other living things in Mandarin lessons. We learned to speak and write related Chinese characters such as 水,太阳,空气,土,虫, 大小 and 上下。In our next unit “How the world works”, we will be learning about day/night and weather.

Year 2 – Children in Year Two will be making connections to their UOI “How we organise ourselves” by looking at the different forms of transport in HK during Mandarin. They will talk and write about their personal needs and how they come to school.

Year 3 – Children in Year Three have been learning rhymes such as 碰碰船,勾勾手and 国庆到。As part of the book week next week, students will be able to choose their favourite poem to read or write and share their work with the class.

Year 4 – Students in Year Four have made links with “How the world works” by learning phrases that are related to the natural world.  They have also learnt how to use the Chinese/English dictionary so they don’t have to rely on Pinyin when using a dictionary or Google Translate to find meaning of a new word.

Year 5 –Students in Year Five have been learning how to write a note in Mandarin. They have also been practising how to use the words such as 极,比 and 却 in sentences.
