Mandarin Monthly Update #5
1H – Children in 1H are getting very excited about the Chinese New Year. They have been listening to CNY stories and learning about the customs and traditions of Chinese New Year. They’ve also had lots of fun learning songs such as Gong Xi Ge.
Year 2 – Children in Year Two have been working hard to improve their oral presentation skills by participating in role-playing activities during Mandarin. They will continue to do that for 第十课 花园。
Year 3 – Children in Year Three have been learning about sports/ hobbies and stationery. Their next focus of learning will be Measure words and vocabularies about position and direction.
Year 4 – Children in Year Four will soon start their next topic of learning – Famous poems from the Tang Dynasty. They will study poems 春晓,悯农,山行 和 绝句。
Year 5 –Children in Year Five have been busy exploring many different aspects of Chinese culture from Chinese arts and crafts to performing arts.
Year 6 – Students have been learning about “Food and Drinks” and “Transport”. They will continue to improve their writing skills by producing descriptive passages of 100-200 words in length.
1F We have been busy with Chinese New Year celebration for the last two weeks.
Year 2: We have had lots of fun learning Chinese New Year song and 12 Zodiac animals.
Year 3: We finished topic of Clothing. Children should be able to describe what cloth they wear.
Year 4: We are working on chapter six 手影游戏 。
Year 5: We are in the middle of celebration of Chinese New Year.
Year 6: We are in the final stage of preparation for our bench mark test coming up in March.
1G: We have been learning about the customs and traditions of Chinese New Year, through stories, songs, rhymes and “Chunlian” writing :“出入平安”“大吉大利”and“福” using Chinese brushes.
Year 2: After learning about some action verbs of “飞,游,爬”through a rhyme, songs and games, we have moved into the topic of “Chinese New Year and Its celebrations”. Students listen to stories, singing songs and also have chance to practise Chinese brush writing.
Year 3: We have started Chapter 8 “月亮会不会跟人走” (中文2). We have learned and practised a Chinese comedy talk of “答非所问”. We also do some Chinese New Year related role plays in class.
Year 4: We have finished learning about “My School” and “nationalities”. Students should be able to ask and answer questions about their school, grade, school subjects and nationalities. We also do some Chinese New Year related role plays in class.
Year 5: Children are exploring and experiencing many different aspects of Chinese culture including arts and crafts as well as performing arts.
Year 6: We have been learning and revising on the topics of “occupation” and “transportation” etc. Students also practise on reading comprehension as well as composition writing.
Getting organised for Mandarin lessons
If your child has been given a Mandarin folder (including textbooks, activity books and exercise books), she/he needs to bring it to every Mandarin lesson.
Homework
- Homework is usually given out on Mondays and due a week later.
- Some classes will have weekly written homework while other classes may be given oral practice only.
- The amount of homework varies from class to class. It usually includes reading aloud, copying Chinese characters, writing sentences, class reading books, writing book reports, practise writing for dictations etc.
- Please let your teacher know if you have trouble completing your homework on time.
