Mandarin Monthly Update #3

Y1 – Students have finished their units of “Greetings” and “Numbers from 1 to 10”. Our current topic is “My Family”. At the end of the unit, students should be able to talk about their family members in Mandarin and begin to read Chinese characters such as 爸爸，妈妈，姐姐，妹妹，哥哥，弟弟，家。

Y2 – Students in Year Two have been learning basic sight words such as 上下左右中，出入坐立走，风雨雪云雨天电. Please encourage them to practise writing these words at home. They have also had a lot of fun learning riddles and playing games in Chinese.

Y3 – Students in Year Three have just been given login IDs for Mandarin Matrix which will help them to develop listening and reading skills in Mandarin. Please encourage them to visit the website regularly at home.

Y4 -Students in Year Four have finished designing their own menus. They are now expanding their food vocabulary by learning names of different fruits. They will learn a Chinese poem 苹果红不红 and a story 西瓜自己回家了。

Y5 –  Students in Year Five have been busy with the Mandarin UOI link of Migration. Students had the opportunity to interview Ah On in Mandarin during their Mandarin lessons. Through Ah On’s story, they gained a better understanding of the challenges, risks and opportunities that are associated with human migration.

Y6 – Students in Year Six have finished learning about colours and clothing. They will move on to learn simple phrases and sentences about dates and weather.

Y2-we are learning about Body Parts. Children should be able to describe the person with 高，矮，胖， 瘦。

Y3- We have finished learning Pin Yin.  Next topic will be 有趣的汉字。   We will look at historical development of Chinese characters. This is always a fun topic for the children.

Y4- We have finished the topic 文具 Stationery. Students should be able to tell what’s in the school bag and pencil case.

Y5- We are on chapter 16 司马光救人，乌鸦喝水，玲玲的画。

Y6- The children have been producing one piece of composition each week and we are also working on 中文 6 at same time.  We are also using the 四字成语to describing a person.

Y2- The children have been learning 水果（fruits). They should be able to sing a fruit song which includes banana, grapes, watermelon, pear, strawberry, orange and dragon fruits. They should also be able to read a story “我喜欢吃水果“（i like eating fruits) in Mandarin.

Y3-  Students in Year Three have learned lesson  (中文2）“我会做的事”，“绕口令” 。Besides the texts, they learn and practise a lot other 绕口令. They also hear and read stories, and share their readings in class.

Y4-  Students in Year Four have finished learning “虚惊一场”，“猜一猜” and ”猜谜语“。They have been practising writing and sharing their 读后感 in class。.

Y5-   We have finished learning ”people description”. They are learning about “clothes” now. The students should be able to talk about people’s appearance including the clothes they are wearing  in Mandarin. They also practise vocabulary recognition as well as strokes of writing.

Y6-    We have covered the topics of “方向“ and ”地方“。We are writing about “我的家（地方）” which should include 房间，家具，家的附近等等。They will continue to do a lot of reading and writing practice.
