Learning Technology Monthly Update #8

Last week students in Year 6 ran a workshop for teachers from lots of other schools in Hong Kong to teach them about Micro:bit coding and making. They did an amazing job at being the teachers and were confident and patient. Here are some photos from the event:

Students in Year 1 have been experiencing Augmented Reality using iPads and the app Quiver. We will be continuing to look at Augmented and Virtual Reality using simple VR headsets and AR games on iPad over the coming weeks.

Year 2 have done an amazing job over the last few weeks learning how to start coding in Scratch. Students made their own simple painting app and explored different simple projects on their own.

We will be creating a simple game in Scratch over the next few weeks that the students will save into Scratch accounts and publish online.

Students in Year 3 have completed their work composing and sequencing audio and have now moved on to look at editing video. We will continue to learn about video editing for the next few weeks and combine video, photos, music and text together in a finished movie.

Year 4 have been expanding the skills they have in video editing by learning to mark long videos into smaller chunks and arrange them to make a trailer or music video.

Students will next learn to import video files of themselves and edit it into a shorter, more punchy and professional looking piece.

Students in Year 5 have been learning about circuits, electricity and generating electricity as part of their energy unit. They have just started investigating how we can generate electricity from renewable sources and have started to build their own electricity generators. They will be using these generators to charge batteries that will then power an electronics project they will be creating in their classrooms.

Year 6 students had a great time playing robotic Sphero Golf last week with lots of practical maths and problem solving.

Over the next few weeks students are fully focussed on their PYP Exhibition. Sessions in The Cloud will be focused on assisting students with any technology needs they may have during the exhibition and for groups to use the time working on things they need to do.
