BHS House Points App

The BHS House Points App is now available to download. This app is designed to allow students to check how many points each house has earned as well as check their own house points total. Teachers also use the app to award points to students.

The app is available for iOS (iPhone and iPad), Android devices and there is a student web based version. All students will be given their ‘student key’ to log in to the app this week.

You can find the app in the iOS Appstore or Google Play linked on the following page. https://www.beaconhill.edu.hk/house-points-app/

The app also includes two small additional unlockable elements for students. The first is a fun virtual pet called a Beacon Buddy. You can unlock new clothes and hair styles by earning house points as well as take care of your buddy to keep them happy. The second is a simple and fun circular flap-it game where students can unlock new birds by earning more house points.

We are introducing the House Point system:

  • to encourage a sense of belonging and a collective spirit
  • to provide opportunities for positive competitive spirit
  • to strengthen pastoral care – especially vertically (Y1-6)
  • to provide opportunities for students to develop social and leadership skills
  • to develop school pride, involvement and participation

Every child has been allocated into one of the houses:

At the end of each week the house points totals will be calculated and then shared in Golden Book assembly on Mondays where the House with the most points that week will be presented with the House Trophy. Students will be encouraged to earn points through four different aspects of school life. They are called BEAC points (because we are BEACon Hill School!):

  • Behaviour
  • Effort
  • Attitude
  • Caring

Self-improvement will be encouraged, with the children striving to better themselves rather than compete against friends. However we think the friendly, competitive element is important hence the recognition of the House Trophy each week. We will have two House Captains for each House and Year 6 children who are keen to be these representatives will be sharing their thoughts with Year 5 and Year 6 children after the mid-term holiday and the eventual captains will be decided upon through a ballot.
