Big Business

Thank you again for all the support you gave the children during Big Business. The huge effort made by the children, along with your generosity and support allowed the children to make an amazing total of $40,582. This money will go to the Immanuel School in Sudan to help buy safe playground equipment. Well done!

Stationery

As we start our final term please take time to check your stationery supplies. A number of students are missing whiteboard pens and erasers and we would appreciate if these supplies could be replenished.

A huge thank you to all the people who have donated to our Redress Asia Clothes Drive.  This is a great opportunity to donate unwanted clothes to a fantastic cause. We have one more week to go, all clothes must be in by Friday 27th April.  We are looking for:

  • Good quality clothes, accessories and shoes for women, men and children.
  • Clean items.
  • No underwear, socks, swimsuits or home textiles.

Donations will be collected and carefully sorted by Redress for distribution to local HK charities. Top quality clothing will be sold to raise funds for Redress in a pop-up shop following the drive, whilst the clothes that cannot be used for the charity beneficiaries will be kept for Redress’ new circular economy initiative and ultimately recycled into new yarns!

Please support Redress’ work to cut waste out of fashion!

For more information please visit the Redress website: https://www.redress.com.hk

Dodgeball

A number of the Year 5 students have enjoyed taking part in the House Dodgeball competition this week. Thank you to the House Captains who helped organise the event and well done to all those students who took part.

Fitness

In P.E the children have been developing different elements of their fitness through a fun circuit.

UOI

Central Idea : Energy can be converted and transformed to support every day life.

An inquiry into…

  • Transformation of energy  (function)
  • Renewable and non-renewable energy (connection)
  • Sustainable energy use in everyday life (causation)
Concepts : function, causation, connection
Related Concepts :forms of energy (electricity, kinetic, potential), sustainability, transformation of energy.
Learner Profile : knowledgable, thinker
Attitudes : curiosity, independence
In UOI this week we have been working collaboratively on our chosen source of energy. The students were provided with opportunities to develop and refining their research skills by identifying appropriate sources to help them answer their key questions.

In addition, students have begun to think about how their energy usage impacts them and the world. Students have been encouraged to consider the different ways that sustainable energy can be incorporated into everyday life. Additionally, consideration has been given to appliances and their energy ratings.

Number Maths
We have continued to work on identifying patterns in number math by creating tables to easily see patterns, establish the rule between terms and create rules to establish the nth term. Students are enjoying developing their understanding of algebraic equations. Students have also had the opportunity to identify patterns from graphs and write appropriate equations.

Strand Maths
In strand maths, children have developed their confidence using a protractor to both measure angles and draw their own angles of a given size.
In reading, children have continued to work on using strategies to help them determine important information from a variety of texts. With questions in mind and key vocabulary to look out for, students have been identifying facts which are relevant and those which are not relevant but interesting. Students have then been grouping these facts into appropriate paragraphs. In cooperative groups the children have taken a paragraph each and written their facts in their own words which will be used to create a completed report. Next week children will work on editing their writing by focusing on improving paragraph and sentence structures.

  • UOI – In your house or whilst out shopping, pay attention to some of the energy ratings given to appliances. Consider where in your home energy can be used and how.
