Learning Technology Monthly Update #2

Students in Year 1 have been enjoying themselves learning how to use the iPads and laptops. We have been beginning to learn how to navigate the computer using the touchpad and keyboard and will be continuing this over the next few weeks. We will be using programs to create simple animations and also coding/instruction apps.

Students in Year 2 have just started creating comic books using Book Creator on the iPads. We will complete these and print them to make a comic book display. We will then be returning to using Google drive in Year 2 and learn how to make a drawing and a simple presentation.

In Year 3 students are getting more comfortable with using their new Chromebooks. They have used them to create animations and also started learning Google Classroom as a way to share resources and complete work. To help with lots of activities coming up we are focusing on some more advanced browsing and navigating activities including: copying and pasting links, downloading and uploading images, searching and managing files in Google Drive.

Students in Year 4 did a great job building their animations for the sharing unit last week. We will now be starting to consolidate skills around managing files and documents and uploading files. In the next few weeks we will begin some work on creating infographics, editing spreadsheets and collecting data to help with upcoming class activities.

Students in Year 5 have now finished setting up a Learning Blog which we will be adding to over the year with their thoughts and reflections on different areas of learning. We have just begun working on digital painting apps focusing on working with layers and manipulating photos. We will continue to look at more digital painting tools before focusing on visual design and looking at how to make digital work visually appealing to an audience.

In Year 6 we have also been looking at digital painting apps with a focus on more complex photo manipulation and editing. We will focus on more of the ‘photoshop’ type tools that are useful when creating graphic design pieces. We will then focus on both 2D and 3D design tools when creating a blueprint document.
