This week the children have all had a chance to take part in a clean water experiment. They were challenged to filter some amazingly stinky water to try and make it the cleanest they could. This was linked to more class discussions and note taking about access to usable water around the world.
Here is a link to video we have watched this week:
All Mandarin classes have been starting their preparations for the coming celebrations. The Year 5s are playing an important role this year and are busy with dances as well as various art and craft projects.
Central Idea: Water is essential to life and a limited resource for many people.
Lines of Inquiry:
How water changes
Responsibilities regarding water
Distribution, availability of and access to usable water
Our Key Concepts are:
CHANGE – We will understand that water is part of a continuous cycle and can be influenced by humans.
RESPONSIBILITY – We will understand that humans have a responsibility towards the use and conservation of water.
We will be continuing to form our own questions and use these to guide our inquiry into responsible water usage. We will also be starting to look for links between our own behaviours and the impact they have on the hydrosphere.
Number Groups will be moving onto consolidating and extending efficient methods for calculating answers to division problems.
5A: Natalee Evans – for taking responsibility and being supportive of her group when preparing for the class assembly.
5P: Avina Chan – for her mature approach to all her learning and ensuring she always understands what she is doing.
5Y: Tiffany Teh – for making a brilliant start for her chapter for a non fiction book, making use of her knowledge of structure and layout.
Music – Heather Mcomie – for her conscientious attitude in music lessons
ICT /Media – Sabrina John – for her great effort making the start of an ipad app in Gamesalad. Working independently and concentrating hard.
