Year 5 Update Wk 14

Upcoming Dates:

Tuesday December 1st – Y5 Bake Sale and Parent workshop “Transdisciplinary Curriculum” 6:30pm

Friday December 4th – Year 5 Sharing Through the Arts Day 9 am start in the school hall

Friday December 11th – PTA Christmas Disco

Wednesday December 16th – BHS Christmas concert

Please send any home baked good to school on Tuesday morning ready for the bake sales and break times. These are hugely popular events and children feel very proud to see things they have helped make on sale. It is also a great opportunity for some practical home maths skills!

Hint: Brownies without nuts are a big success!

Year 5 sharing with parents

Next Friday, 4th December all parents are invited to share your child’s learning journey through our last Unit of Inquiry. We will begin in the hall at 9 am. The sharing will finish at 10:55 am when the children have finished rotating through the different stations. We look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible.

All of the children have been busy working on their inquiries; finalising their art works; practising their drama and music presentations; editing and producing the final drafts of their writing. They are really enjoying taking ownership of their learning. The approaching deadline and being ready to share their work with you is motivating them and keeping them focused.

All classes worked with the dance teacher to transfer their performances on to the stage and they now need to keep looking up (not at their feet) and add energy to their movements and expressions.

It has also been a busy sporting week in year 5 with many of our children having the opportunity to represent their school at netball and football events. Well done to them all and thank you for the parent support.

The child

ren have completed their summative assessments on area and perimeter and addition and subtraction. These will help us to see where we need to focus lessons in coming weeks and how the children are progressing towards the expected year 5 outcomes.

These weeks main focus has been pulling to together everything we have learnt about p 240x220-editing-image oetry and journal writing. Children have had to apply language and text knowledge as well as make links with the their understanding of migration. They have also been asked to develop their own editing skills to ensure their work is correct and clear.

As your children are now in the upper school, they are expected to be completing 30-45 minutes of homework each night. This will be made up of: approx 15-20 minutes reading with an adult, 10-15 spelling work, and their weekly assigned task.

This week:

We would like the children to continue practising their wonderful dance moves for our sharing day performance. Specifically, to plan out and practice their 4 poses during the dance.

Children should also be prepared with what they are saying for each of the freeze frames in their drama presentations.
