  • Toys, School Bags and Bad Backs!

Please remember that toys are not permitted to come to school.  Loss, damage and safety are reasons why BHS asks children to leave their precious playthings at home.

Please check your child’s school bag for any excess toys.  While you are there, please remove any ‘non BHS’ items. Library books should only be coming to school on the class library day.

  • Mathletics and Reading Eggspress at home

Please encourage your child to visit both of these wonderful websites, which are funded by your PTA.

  • Homework

Homework is due into school on Fridays. It is important that we receive the homework on the date due as they are often used in subsequent lessons.

The Great Kindness Challenge

This week children had the opportunity to participate in the worldwide challenge, talk to your child about the various acts of kindness they performed this week!

China Week!

The children have been working hard to prepare for the Chinese New Year celebrations and are looking forward to China Day next week.

How We Express Ourselves

Central Idea: Nature, purpose and creativity can inspire the design of structures in the community

Lines of Inquiry

  1. Architecture in the local and global environment
  2. Elements that influence design
  3. Pattern and shapes in structures (Maths)

Concepts: Form, Perspective, Reflection

Learner Profile: Communicator, Reflective

Attitudes: Confidence, Creativity

In the coming week we will be inquiring into structures around the world. Looking into their purpose, design and what inspired the designers.

This unit connects with our Maths curriculum by inquiring into shape and space.  This week we will be testing the strength of  polygons.

Multiplication and Division

Central Idea – Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division are related to each other and used to help us solve problems

Lines of Inquiry:

The methods that are used to solve calculations

The operations of multiplication and division

The different relationships between the four operations

The children will be:

  • Multiplying 3 digit by 2 digit numbers
  • Dividing 3 digit by 1 digit numbers with and without remainders
  • Calculating multiplication and division questions mentally
  • Modelling multiplication and division using arrays
  • Estimating and rounding to check answers

We will be completing investigations into the nature of remainders in division, along with the rules of divisibility. We are continuing to reinforce basic facts of multiplication and division and consequently the  relationship between the two.

Narrative

This is our second unit on Narrative writing where we are hoping to consolidate skills in the following areas.

  1. Using and identifying complex sentences.
  2. Consistent use of past tense
  3. Using the basic mechanics of writing when editing
  4. Use of dialogue

The Narrative style we are inquiring into is Folk Tales.  We encourage you to share the Folk Tales you grew up with that are part of your culture with your child.  They can then share these with the class.  We will begin by listening to and deconstructing a Fable.
