4J – Wednesday and Thursday

4W – Tuesday and Thursday

4M – No Change; Tuesday and Wednesday

  • An information form has come home about the classes’ Christmas parties, which has the food requirements listed for your child to bring to school.  Please do not send in any extra food other than what is requested as we usually end up with  leftover food and would like to minimise wastage.
  • Secret Santa – Each child has received a letter with the name of the child they are to buy a secret gift for, with the value up to $80.  If your child is leaving earlier or not present on party day please remember to send in the gift as there will be a gift for them when they return.  All gifts to be brought to school on Monday 14th December. Gifts will be exchanged at our Christmas parties.
  • The Holiday Season is fun and fantastic and a great time to take extra leave to visit family around the world, this we understand! Please let us, or the school, know the days that your child will be absent.
  • Portfolios will be sent home on the last day of school. Please have a look with your child over the holidays and be prepared to bring them back to school after the Christmas break.

Pitching Up or Struck Out?

Unfortunately due to bad weather, the Year 4’s did not go to the pitch this week.  Please remember normal PE commences next week.

Tuning in to Research

This week we introduced the ‘Learning Activity Grid’ by looking at what it means to explore and discover.  Students chose from three options how they will demonstrate their understanding.

I think…so it must be a fact! Right?

In English this week the students completed tasks to further extend their understanding of facts and opinions and have been introduced to the notion of ‘informed opinions’ – using facts to support an opinion.

Where We Are In Place and Time

Central Idea: Change in our world can happen through exploration and discovery

Lines of Inquiry

  1. Explorations and discoveries that have changed our world
  2. The reasons why people choose to explore and discover
  3. The effects of exploration and discovery on the recording of time

Concepts: change, causation and connections

Learner Profile: courageous

Attitudes: curiosity and Integrity

In the coming week we will be completing our chosen activity to demonstrate our knowledge of explorations and discoveries.

Pattern and Function

Central Idea – By analysing patterns and identifying rules for patterns it is possible to make predictions

Key Concepts:

  • Prime Numbers
  • Composite Numbers
  • Square Numbers
  • Triangular Numbers
  • Factors and Multiples

Measurement – Time

Central Idea (Strand)- Events have attributes that can be measured using appropriate tools.

Lines of Inquiry

Solving real-life situations using time

The many ways of recording and measuring time

The children will be:

  • Inquiring into how measurement of time has developed (linked with U.O.I)
  • Reading time to the nearest minute
  • Calculating elapsed time
  • Reading 24 hour clocks
  • Using am and pm

This week will see the pre-assessment for the pattern and function completed along with some mini inquiries into prime and composite numbers.

Persuasion

Our new writing style is Persuasion; writing to persuade or convince others of an opinion.  Children will learn the structure of a persuasive text and begin to use this in their personal writing.  At home, talk about different ways advertisers use persuasion in every day life.
This week the children will be writing a guided persuasive letter trying to convince you to give them that something special!
