- Please complete the ‘Home-School’ profile and return it to your class teacher if you have not done so already.
- Please discuss your child’s school lunches with them. Ensure they like what they are intending to eat. We are happy to discuss this further with you if necessary.
- Well done to all the children in Year 3 who remembered to bring fruit and vegetables to school for snack on ‘Fruity Friday’.
- Children are now borrowing books from the Learning Centre. Please ensure your child returns any books borrowed after two weeks.
- Please remember that we have a no nut policy at BHS due to some children having severe allergies. This includes peanut butter sandwiches and nuts in cookies or cakes.
- Please ensure that ALL uniform (including shoes) is clearly labelled with your child’s name.
- Please remember to check you child’s diary each evening for letters, updates and information.
People communicate in different ways and for different purposes
Lines of inquiry
- Non-verbal and verbal forms of communication
- Why people communicate with each other
- The reasons and impact for communicating in different ways
The children will continue to inquire into how people communicate through the use of codes, including Morse Code and Semaphore. They will decipher and create their own.
The children will find out how symbols can be used in keys to interpret maps. They will create their own maps and key.
The children will explore drama as a means of communicating.
The children will explore drama as a eans of communicating
Central Idea
Place Value helps us represent and understand numbers
- The value of numbers according to their place
- The role of zero in the place value system
The children will continue to develop their knowledge of the different values of digits in a number and will be able to show their understanding in different ways. They will apply their understanding of place value to rename 4 digit numbers.
The children will apply their knowledge of place value in different game situations.
Position and Direction
• Use and follow positional and directional language
The children will use positional and directional language to describe the location of objects.
The children will interpret grid references to show position. They will also be creating their own town map using symbols to represent different locations.
Please encourage your child to complete the Mathletics activities set.
Recount: Tells us about events that have happened to them or other people.
Children will be looking at the different features of a recount. This includes:
- Creating a title
- Using the past tense
- Putting events in chronological order
- Using time connectives
Children will give a verbal recount of a story they have shared ensuring all features of a recount are met. They will be encouraged to make varied and interesting word choices. They will proof read their work to check for coherence.
Poetry
Children will be listening and investigating sounds. They will also be inquiring into the different ways people communicate at BHS.
They will then plan and create a conversational poem. They will practise reading them out using appropriate rhythm and tone.
We are currently assessing all the children’s reading progress. These will be discussed at the parent consultations in October.
