World Peace Day

This Monday (21st September) is World Peace Day. Last week, Miss Dewhurst spoke to all of the students during Assembly to explain the significance of this day. To mark the occasion, children will be producing some “Peace” artwork and should also come to school wearing multicoloured clothing.

P.E. kit

We still have some children wearing P.E. kit on the wrong days, please refer to the table below for further information.

Please note we will inform you if these arrangements change.

This week, Year 2 children have had fun learning about rest and relaxation and hygiene. Some of us have tried giving one another massages by following the instructions on a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuQZ0LT5pvI). This is the link if you would like to try this lovely experience with your own child at home. It is specifically aimed at children and incorporates massage into stories. Great fun and very relaxing!

Lifestyle choices can affect human health and well-being

The childre2Mn continue to inquire into the 5 elements of a healthy lifestyle; nutrition, hygiene, relaxation, relationships and exercise. Over the coming two weeks we will be participating in a fun and relaxing yoga session with Ms Fisher (6F teacher and yoga expert), beginning to record data about our lifestyles in our “Healthy Habits Journal” and furthering our understanding of how we are responsible for our own health and well-being.

The operations of addition and subtraction are related to each other.

Next week we will continue to explore the relationship betweeIMG_8219n addition and subtraction facts. We will also be developing faster recall of our number bonds to 20 and beyond. We will also be revising our understanding of 2-digit numbers through the use of 100 squares.

We will continue to look at procedural texts in class and focus on the features of the genre (title, goal, requirements and steps). Next week we will work in pairs and individually to apply our understanding of this text type to some fun procedures, such as; “How to make your teacher really angry!” and “How to make your parents really happy.”

Our grammar focus will continue looking at the important role verbs play at the beginning of a sentence. We shall be learning to identify these from different texts.

Healthy Habits Journal

We occasionally assign the Year 2 students a homework project that supports or enhances their work in the classroom. We will be asking the children to complete a “Healthy Habits Journal” over the coming long weekend (we will send it home on Wednesday 23rd September). We will help the children complete a journal entry for one day and then would ask that you help your children to complete a further 4-5 journal entries at home and return it on Tuesday 29th September. Thanks in advance for your support with this project.

Spelling

The children are handling the Year 2 spelling routine very well and we are delighted with their organisational skills and efforts in learning their words. Please note due to CPD days and Public Holidays the next spelling test will be on Wednesday 30th September.

Fruity Friday

Every week at Beacon Hill we will be having our own ‘Fruity Friday’. Children are asked to bring a piece of fruit as their healthy snack. We will let you know in advance if and when PTA will be selling fruit so that your child can bring in money then.
