Year 2 Update Wk 30

Library Book Bag
Please make sure your child has their book bag and library books on the correct day.
Daily Collection
Children are taken by their class teacher to the front steps at 2:55pm daily, to allow them to leave the building in a safe manner before 3:00pm which is when the Y4-6 classes are dismissed. Please ensure you are there for 2:55pm to pick up your child. Thank you.

This week in Year 2 the children have started to think about the different modes of transport that they know.  We have completed our previous Unit of inquiry and carried out our summative assessments. On Thursday the children visited the Year 5 Big Business Day where they were able to buy toys, food and drink. They loved this experience as they were able to see the independent businesses set up by their peers in the upper school and also their older siblings.

We have been working very hard to learn the 2, 5 and 10x tables in class and at home. We have carried out an assessment on the 2x table this week and shall follow this with the 5 next Friday and the 10 the following week. This week we have started to complete a class multiplication grid where we have expressed different ways of showing our times tables. We have been introduced to division and have started to share objects equally between a set number of people.

Each day, we have been completing our mental maths books which incorporate multiplication and division. We have been making a super effort to practise our times table for the week.

Reading

Children continue to bring home one book per night to read with an adult. If they do not complete the book in one night, they are able to bring this home to read the following night. Please ensure that you are leaving a comment about your child’s reading in their reading journal.

Fruity Friday

Every week at Beacon Hill we have ‘Fruity Friday’. Children are asked to bring a piece of fruit as their healthy snack. We will let you know in advance if and when PTA will be selling fruit so that your child can bring in money then.
