Year 2 Update Wk 30
Portfolio reminder
Transport systems are directly related to the needs of a community.
This week we have started to think about the different types of transport that we know. We have begun to identify the modes of transport in our surrounding environment and further afield.
To begin with, we listed all of the transport that we know and we self assessed our work based on a set criteria using a traffic light approach of Red, Amber and Green. Next we carried out our pre-assessment and we identified the transport found around Hong Kong and the reasons it was used here. Likewise, we listed the transport that wouldn’t be used and the reasons for this.
An activity we really enjoyed was using the alphabet and creating a list of transport with each letter. We found this very challenging and fun.
Next week, we will continue to look at transport in more depth and try to visit the MTR in Kowloon Tong.
Recognise and represent division as grouping into equal sets and solve simple problems using these representations
We have been working very hard to learn the 2, 5 and 10x tables in class and at home. We have carried out an assessment on the 2x table this week and shall follow this with the 5 next Friday and the 10 the following week. This week we have started to complete a class multiplication grid where we have expressed different ways of showing our times tables. We have been introduced to division and have started to share objects equally between a set number of people.
- 10x table test will take place on Friday 22nd April 2016
- Spelling homework is given out weekly. Our next spelling test will be on Friday 22nd April.
Reading
Children continue to bring home one book per night to read with an adult. If they do not complete the book in one night, they are able to bring this home to read the following night. Please ensure that you are leaving a comment about your child’s reading in their reading journal.

Fruity Friday
Every week at Beacon Hill we have ‘Fruity Friday’. Children are asked to bring a piece of fruit as their healthy snack. We will let you know in advance if and when PTA will be selling fruit so that your child can bring in money then.
