Year 2 Update Wk 19

Library Book Bag
Please make sure your child has their book bag and library books on the correct day.

Daily Collection

Children are taken by their class teacher to the front stairs at 2:55pm daily, to allow them to leave the building in a safe manner by 3:00pm.

Thank you very much for supporting your child with their research homework into the celebration they have chosen. This work has been incredibly useful in helping them to prepare for their mini presentation to you on Sharing Day.
We have also been busy in Music and Dance where the children have been continuing to make connections between our central idea and these curriculum areas. In Music lessons, the children are singing celebration songs and learning to play celebration music on percussion instruments. In Dance, the children are adding some of their own moves to the class dance.

The children will be putting the finishing touches to the Maths game they have created. They will be playing and evaluating one another’s games and working on their mental addition and subtraction strategies in the process. Their game has an addition and subtraction focus and also makes a link to the celebration your child has chosen to inquire into. The children are very excited that they will be able to play their games with you on Sharing Day.
We have been learning about the key features of some different forms of poetry. The children will be continuing to write their own poems based around the celebration that they have chosen to inquire into. We will have the choice of writing our poetry in 3 different styles; Haiku, Acrostic and Diamond. In order to make our poems fun and interesting, we will be using our knowledge of verbs, nouns and adjectives. You will have the opportunity to see the poems your child has created on display during Sharing Day.

During our phonics lessons, we will continue to focus on the phoneme ‘ay.’

Children continue to bring home one book per night to read with an adult. If they do not complete the book in one night, they are able to bring this home to read the following night. Please ensure that you are leaving a comment about your child’s reading in their reading journal.

Fruity Friday

Every week at Beacon Hill we have ‘Fruity Friday’. Children are asked to bring a piece of fruit as their healthy snack. We will let you know in advance if and when PTA will be selling fruit so that your child can bring in money then.
