Daily Collection

Children are taken by their class teacher to the front stairs at 2:55pm daily, to allow them to leave the building in a safe manner by 3:00pm.

The children have begun their inquiry into our new unit, How we express ourselves. The children have looked at Christmas and New Year celebrations and created some New Years resolutions.  We have generated some questions around our UOI and mind mapped all of the celebrations we know already, including some key features of these. We have chosen a celebration and will find out information regarding traditions and key features of this. We shall then present our findings to our peers.

dance

Mrs Martin has been working hard with all children in Y2 to learn some basic dance moves. As we have now chosen our celebration of choice, we will be working hard to create a short dance sequence based around this.

Next week the children will continue their work on addition and subtraction and using the base ten strategy to help them add or subtract two digit numbers. We will be creating a maths game that uses our UOI as a theme and incorporates our knowledge of addition, subtraction and doubling. Parents will be able to enjoy this when they attend our sharing day.
We have been learning about the key features of some poetry. The children will be continuing to write their own poems based around our UOI. We will have the choice of writing our poetry in 3 different styles; Haiku, Acrostic and Diamond. In order to make our poems fun and interesting, we will be using our knowledge of verbs, nouns and adjectives.
During our phonics lessons, we have been learning about the ‘ay’ sound.

Fruity Friday

Every week at Beacon Hill we have ‘Fruity Friday’. Children are asked to bring a piece of fruit as their healthy snack. We will let you know in advance if and when PTA will be selling fruit so that your child can bring in money then.
