Year 2 Update Wk 14

Year 2 Pitch Sessions
Year 2 will continue having pitch sessions every Thursday until Thursday 10th December 2015. As 2F and 2M already wear PE kit on Thursday, there is no change for them, but 2A will need to wear their PE kit on Thursdays too. Please remind children to bring a hat and a water bottle to school on this day.

Library Book Bag
Please make sure your child has their book bag and library books on the correct day.

Daily Collection

Children are taken by their class teacher to the front stairs at 2:55pm daily, to allow them to leave the building in a safe manner by 3:00pm.

This week at BHS we have had special guests and we have been showing them the good work we do in class. They have asked us about our learning and discussed with us the things that we like about school.

This week the children enjoyed a variety of different rotations during their time at pitch. 2A were working on their fitness skills, 2F learnt about rounders and rugby and 2M were introduced to some football skills.

We can model numbers up to 999 using different methods.

The children have been enjoying our place value unit and have continued to learn new ways of showing different numbers. They have been learning to recognise, model, read and write three-digit numbers in a variety of ways. This week we have played a lot of place value games and recorded our 3 digit numbers. Some examples of this are; creating our names using Dienes blocks and making apple jigsaws which represent 3-digit numbers in a variety of ways.

Next week, we will be thinking about how adding multiples of 10/100 to a 3-digit number impacts on it and assessing the children’s understanding of place value.

Some Super Sentences

Some Super Sentences

This week in Year 2 the children have been focusing on correct sentence structure. We have looked at pictures of a pollution and written sentences including the correct punctuation, grammar and adjectives. As part of our self assessment we have made sure that our sentences make sense and asked our peers to check these.

The children’s next spelling test will be on Friday 4th December. If you could please make sure they are completing at least 3 activities during the week, but recording only one in their spelling journals.

Reading

Children bring home one book per night to read with an adult. If they do not complete the book in one night, they are able to bring this home to read the following night.

Fruity Friday

Every week at Beacon Hill will be having ‘Fruity Friday’. Children are asked to bring a piece of fruit as their healthy snack. We will let you know in advance if and when PTA will be selling fruit so that your child can bring in money then.
