Music Monthly Update #6

Using children’s action  songs like “My Name is Pinocchio”, “This Old Man”, “Okki Tokki Unga” and others, we will explore pulse and rhythm. Students will learn how to recall and copy rhythms and patterns and how to create rhythm patterns based on words and phrases.

Students will be increasing their repertoire of songs and using tuned and un-tuned percussion instruments to accompany performances. We will also be examining the way we can notate musical ideas.

As part of their “Sharing Unit” on children’s rights, students are learning some songs and rehearsing percussion arrangements which they will teach their parents to perform.

Students are continuing to develop their repertoire of songs and chords on the ukelele. They are preparing for a performance later this term when 30 students will have the opportunity to play with the Junior Choir.

Students are exploring various musical devices and conventions that composers use. Creating their own compositions, they are considering the musical elements pitch, dynamics, tempo and texture and the effect these constituents have on the composition.

We are rehearsing songs for the Yr 6 Exhibition. We hope to have a small instrumental group accompanying. We are also examining the role of a songwriter and composer and how meanings are conveyed through lyrics, melodic lines and harmonic progressions.

BHS Chamber Choir are preparing for their next three performances. They will be performing at Renaissance College on March 3rd, Shatin Junior School on March 11th, and at the Abeerdeen Boat Club for Mr Jonathan Straker’s Farewell Party.
The Community Choir are rehearsing for their next performance at the Food Fair. Everyone are welcome to join. Rehearsals are on Thursdays 3:15-4:15 or Thursdays 7:00-8:30.
