Mandarin Monthly Update #8

1H – To make connections to the UOI unit “How the world works”, we will be sharing stories and singing songs that will enhance children’s knowledge and understanding of the natural world.

Year 2 – Children in Year Two will be making connections to their UOI unit “Where we are in place and time” by looking at the past, present and future of our familiar surroundings.

Year 3 – Children in Year Three have learnt how to use 一…就… and 一边…一边… in sentences. In their next unit, children will have the opportunity to talk about their favourite sports and hobbies in Mandarin.

Year 4 – Students in Year Four will continue to look at various elements that are related to the natural world including time, seasons and weather. They will be working on dialogues and role plays from 月亮上有什么, 大自然的语言,and 要下雨了。

Year 5 –Students in Year Five have been learning about similes and connectives in Mandarin. They are encouraged to use their knowledge of grammar to adapt and substitute words and set phrases in sentences.

Year 6 – Students in Year Six have produced impressive pieces of work in Mandarin individually and as a group during the Y6 exhibition. They are now working on their presentations of “My pet”, “My school” or “My classroom”.

1F  We have just finished the booklet of food and snacks. We are now moving on to Dragon Boat Festival celebration.

Year 2: We are now learning about the family members and children made a beautiful poster of their family tree.

Year 3:  We are on Chapter 12 this week about food and drinks. We are focusing on craeting a menu and role play.

Year 4: We have finished chapter eight 小猫钓鱼 and now on chapter nine 文具的家 。

Year 5:  We have finished the transportation booklet and designed a poster.  Now we are creating a story book called “My Story”.

Year 6: Children have done a fabulous job on their exhibition. We are going to start our stand alone unit in Mandarin ” Beijing Opera” next week. 

Getting organised for Mandarin lessons

If your child has been given a Mandarin folder (including textbooks, activity books and exercise books), she/he needs to bring it to every Mandarin lesson.

Homework

  • Homework is usually given out on Mondays and due a week later.
  • Some classes will have weekly written homework while other classes may be given oral practice only.
  • The amount of homework varies from class to class. It usually includes reading aloud, copying Chinese characters, writing sentences, class reading books, writing book reports, practise writing for dictations etc.
  • Please let your teacher know if you have trouble completing your homework on time.
