Mandarin Monthly Update #6

1H – We have started to learn vocabulary and sentences that are related to “Colours”. Children will be able to listen and respond to picture books using the phrases and sentences learnt in class, e.g. My favourite colour is red.

Year 2 – Children in Year Two will learn to describe the location of an object using positional or directional words in 第十一课 认方向。

Year 3 – Children in Year Three will learn to ask and respond to where an object is by using vocabulary and sentences in Lesson 14 书在书架上 and Lesson 15 我的房间。

Year 4 – Children in Year Four will continue to learn famous poems from the Tang Dynasty. They will also be able to create art work and /or calligraphy pieces that are related to this topic.

Year 5 –Children in Year Five have learned 旧大衣,小男孩和樱桃树。They should be able to use 不但。。。反而。。。when they write their own sentences.

Year 6 – Students have been busy with revisions for the ESF Primary Chinese Benchmark test which will take place next week. Good luck!

1F  We had been learning Chinese New Year stories Which are Kitchen God, Door God and Laba Porridge) and a Chinese New Year song 恭祝大家新年好。Now we are working on zodiac animals. Children will be able to memorize 12 zodiac animals in order and write Chinese characters 牛、马、羊和兔。

Year 2: We are learning 12 Zodiac animals. Children will be able to memorize 12 Zodiac animals in order and write Chinese characters 猴、鼠、牛、虎、兔、龙、蛇 。We are also working on sentences introducing the zodiac signs.

Year 3: We learnt the story of 12 Chinese Zodiac animals and now we are doing the body parts topic.Children should be able to describe the body parts in Mandarin.

Year 4: We have finished learning chapter three 过新年and gone through all the chapters we have learnt. We will start a new chapter 小兔吃菜 this Friday.

Year 5:  We have been working on the sports booklet. Children should be able to memorize the sentences in the booklets. We have also done a poster about sports.

Year 6: Students have been busy with revisions for the ESF Primary Chinese Benchmark test which will take place next week. Good luck!

Getting organised for Mandarin lessons

If your child has been given a Mandarin folder (including textbooks, activity books and exercise books), she/he needs to bring it to every Mandarin lesson.

Homework

  • Homework is usually given out on Mondays and due a week later.
  • Some classes will have weekly written homework while other classes may be given oral practice only.
  • The amount of homework varies from class to class. It usually includes reading aloud, copying Chinese characters, writing sentences, class reading books, writing book reports, practise writing for dictations etc.
  • Please let your teacher know if you have trouble completing your homework on time.
